Privacy, in plain words

Who we are
Pawsterpiece. Write to hello@pawsterpiece.com about anything in this policy.
The photo you upload
Before your first upload, Cloudflare Turnstile checks in the background that you are a person and not a bot. We use your pet's photo to paint your portraits and to improve our styles. To paint them, the photo is sent to our image-generation provider (Google's Gemini API). The photo, its short description, the paintings and the watermarked previews are kept in our cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) for 12 months and then deleted automatically, so you can come back to your previews, download what you bought again, and ask for a repaint.
If you buy, we may also show your pet's portraits, and the photo they were painted from, on our website, social media and ads, never with your name or contact details, and only photos that show just your pet. Those copies are kept for as long as we use them. If you would rather we did not, tell us at any time and we will stop using them. We never sell your photo.
Your browser remembers your last previews for 29 days, the orders you opened on that device and the currency you chose, so the page can take you back to them. This stays on your device.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe, which receives your card details and email; we never see your card number. We keep the order details (what you bought, the amount, the fee, your email and the pet name you typed) for as long as accounting law requires.
If you order a print, Stripe also asks for your name, delivery address and phone number. We pass them, with your email and the print file, to our print partner, which makes and ships the print, and they reach the delivery carrier, which may use your email or phone to tell you about the delivery. We do not copy your address into our own database: it stays with Stripe and our print partner, who keep order records as accounting law requires.
Measurement
With your consent (asked in the EU, the UK and Switzerland, on by default elsewhere) we use the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics to learn whether our ads and pages work, and your browser remembers for 30 days which ad brought you. When you buy, the purchase is also reported to them from our server: to Meta with your IP address, browser and a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email, to Google with its own visitor id. We keep these details for 45 days. You can change your choice at any time under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the home page.
We also count page visits ourselves for every visitor, without cookies and without storing anything on your device or keeping your IP address, and keep that simple log for 14 months. To stop abuse of the free previews, we count requests per network address for about a day.
Your email
We ask for your email to show your free previews and send you one email with the link back to them, and we keep it for 35 days. If you tick "email me new styles and offers", we keep it until you unsubscribe; every such email has an unsubscribe option, and replying "stop" works too. When you buy, we email you the link to your order page and one more when every portrait is ready, and with a print one more when it ships. A link asked for at pawsterpiece.com/my is sent only to an address that has orders with us. Emails are sent through Cloudflare, and we keep a record of each one so a failed email can be sent again: the address and content of a preview email are removed after 35 days, the content of order emails after 90 days. We never sell or share your address.
Canvas print updates
If you asked us to tell you when canvas prints launch, we keep the email address you typed for that one message and delete it within 12 months. It is not added to any other list and never shared.
Your data
You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, for a copy, a correction or deletion. One email to hello@pawsterpiece.com is enough. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
AI disclosure
Every portrait and preview on this site is generated by AI from a photo. We label this on the site and in your order.
